Ananthapur
Ananthapuramu gets its name from Anaatasagaram, a large tank, meaning endless ocean. The villages of Anaantasagaram and Bukkarayasamudram were built by Anantaras Chilkkavodeya, the minister of Bukka-I, a Vijayanagar ruler. Some authorities claim that Anaantasagaram was named after the queen of Bukka, while some claim it must have been known after Anantarasa Chikkavodeya herself, as Bukka did not have a queen with that name.
