Attur
Attur has a long history of dedication from St. Lawrence, where people of all faiths have visited the shrine, now the Minor Basilica. During the five-day celebrations, Dr. Aloysius Paul DSouza, Bishop Emeritus, Diocese of Mangalore, will preside over the Holy Eucharist on Sunday, January 26 at 6:30 am and this Mass will be offered especially for children in Konkani. Dr. Anthony Swamy Thomasappa, Bishop of the Diocese of Chikmagalur, will preside over the Holy Eucharist on Monday, January 27 at 6:00 pm. Mass is celebrated in Kannada. Geevarghese Makarios Kalayil, Bishop, Diocese of Puthur (Syro-Malankara), will chair the Holy Eucharist on Tuesday, January 28 at 10:30 am. Mass will be celebrated in Kannada.
Pilgrims, regardless of caste and faith, come to visit the sanctuary all year round. People believe that St. Lawrence is indeed a powerful intercessor for God. Not only the people of Attur and the pilgrims who visit the shrine, but also those who, without visiting the shrine, still pray for help from the saint, have felt St. Lawrences helping hand. The large number of pilgrims who visit the sanctuary during the Feast and throughout the year is a testimony that the saint does not refuse those who approach him with confidence.
