Barnala
Barnala is a city in the state of Punjab in India. Barnala city serves as the headquarters of Barnala district, which was formed in 2006. Before the formation of Barnala district, this city was located in Sangrur district. It is a central district bordered by Ludhiana district to the north, Moga district to the northwest, Bathinda district to the west, Sangrur district to the east and Mansa district to the south.
The Sikh historian Giani has recorded the details of the founding of Barnala in the annals of Khalsa, thus Baba Ala Singh in the year 1775, after offering Bhadaur (founded by King Padhar Sain) to his brother Duna Singh, was to Barnala. he came the region. stay away at that time. He founded it, made it his capital and took the surrounding towns under his control. It also appears that Anahatgarh existed earlier and must have been abandoned after the Dharvis attacks.
There are different opinions about the nomenclature of Barnala. Some believe that Vaaran was a region also called Varna due to the frequent storms of that time. That is why Barnala was called the land of too many storms, which was later called Barnala for the accuracy of the example. Another view shows that Baba Ala Singh and Baba Anahat Khan built a fort here, in which there was a 'Baahuli' (a well with steps leading down). This was also known as 'Baain' due to its accuracy and Malwai accent. Thus, Baain Wala finally became Barnala. These are just different opinions, but there are no historical details available on how the name Barnala came about. Barnala is named after Baba Ala Singh. Baba Ala Singh left Bhadaur with his elder brother (birthplace of Patiala state) and settled in Barnala and conquered many areas with the help of his brothers, the Bhadaur Sardars. Although it was a district headquarters in the erstwhile princely state system, it was later merged with PEPSU (Patiala and East Punjab States Union) and was downgraded to sub-divisional headquarters.
There is a stone "Rameshwaram Stone" at Nath Wala Dera - Village Handiaya, adjacent to Barnala, floating on water.
