Begusarai
Begusarai is a beautiful old town located in the Indian state of Bihar. This city is located 41 meters above sea level. According to historians, this city used to be an important part of the ancient Mithila kingdom. The interesting name of this ancient city is derived from the term Begum and Sarai. It has been noted from various records that this city was formerly visited by the Gegum (queen) of Bhagalpur for her pilgrimage near this city on the Ganges River. From that time on, this holy city has coined its name as Begusarai. In addition to a rich historical scenario, this city offers a picturesque setting. According to the geologists, this city is home to the largest oxbow lake in Asia, called Kabar language.
Begusarai City is the administrative headquarters of Begusarai District, one of the thirty-eight districts of Bihar State, India. The district is located on the north bank of the Ganges River. It is located at latitudes 25.15N and 25.45N and longitudes 85.45E and 86.36E. It was established in 1870 as a part of Munger District. It was established as a district in 1972. The districts name apparently comes from Begum (queen) + Sarai (inn), as Begum used to come from Bhagalpur to the Simaria Ghat (a holy site on the bank of the Ganges) for a pilgrimage of a month. later adopted the current slang form Begusara. It is the birthplace of the famous Hindi poet Rashtrakavi Ramdhari Singh Dinkar (however most people know Munger as his birthplace as Begusarai was the part of Munger during his birth and much of his life) and the distinguished historian Professor Ram Saran Sharma. Begusarai is the part of the historical region of Mithila. Distinguished historian Professor Ram Sharan Sharma was born on November 26, 1919 in Barauni, Begusarai, Bihar. Shri Rajendra Prasd Singh (who received the Best Farmer and Social Worker Award from UNICEF and Indira Gandhi) was born in Harrakh (Begusarai) village.
