Churu
Churu district is a district of the Indian state of Rajasthan in northern India. It was founded by Banirot Rajputs. Some believe that it was a village of Jats known as Kalera Ka Bas. Thakur Kushal Singh built Churu Fort in 1649 and during the battle of 1871 the area came under the rule of Bikaner state. The town of Churu is the administrative headquarters of the district.
Churu is located in the Bikaner region of northern Rajasthan and shares borders with Hanumangarh district in the north, Haryana state in the east, Jhunjhunu and Sikar districts in the southeast, Nagaur district in the south and Bikaner district in the west.
The district has an approximate area of 16,830 km2, with a road length of 1,901 km. The 2011 population was approximately 2,039,547. The sex ratio is 938 women per 1,000 men; Literacy among residents is 67.46%. There are 9 tehsils in the district: Churu, Rajaldesar, Sidhmukh, Ratangarh, Taranagar, Rajgarh, Sardarshahar, Sujangarh and Bidasar. Sardarshahar is the largest Tehsil and Sidhmukh is the newest Tehsil headquarters in Churu district. The main crops are bajra and guar.
