Faridkot
Faridkot is a city in the southwestern part of the state of Punjab, India. It serves as the headquarters of both Faridkot districts. as well as Faridkot division. The division was established in Faridkot in 1995 and covers Faridkot, Bathinda and Mansa districts.
The historic Quila Mubarak fortress has existed since the time of Baba Farid. However, Hamir Singh laid the foundation of the modern city as a princely state in 1763. From 1807, the city was briefly under the rule of Maharaja Ranjit Singh until 1809. Due to British intervention, the city was returned to the ruling Brar family . The city remained the capital of Faridkot State under British rule until 1947. It later became part of Patiala and East Punjab States Union (PEPSU) in 1948. Faridkot was excluded from the state as a separate district on August 7, 1972. of erstwhile Bathinda district (Faridkot Tehsil) and Ferozepur district (Moga and Muktsar Tehsils). Further, Faridkot district was bifurcated in November 1995 when two of its sub-divisions viz. Muktsar and Moga were given the status of independent districts under the leadership of Muktsar CM Harcharan Singh Brar.
