Kandhamal district, also known as Phulbani district, is a district in the state of Odisha, India. The district headquarters is Phulbani. Kandhamal is famous for its local turmeric, known as 'Kandhamal Haldi', which has been awarded Geographical Indication (GI) by Intellectual Property India, an organization functioning under the auspices of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (India). It is a district full of natural beauties, including wildlife and birds.

Kandhamal district was created on 1 January 1994, following the division of Phulbani district into Kandhamal and Boudh districts of Odisha, India. The district took its name from the prominent Kandha tribe, who live in the region.
