Kendujhar
Kendujhar district is an administrative district of Odisha. The district is one of the fifth scheduled areas of Odisha. The town of Kendujhar (or Kendujhargarh) is the district headquarters. The district has three sub-divisions: Anandapur, Champua and Kendujhar.
The early history of Kendujhar is not certain. The Vindhyatabi Nagas ruled Keonjhar during the 2nd century AD. C. until the 4th century AD. C. and Satrubhanja was the famous king of the dynasty. At Sitabhinji, frescoes were found in the shelter cave of Ravana Chhaya, dating back to the 5th century AD.
Kendujhar district functioned as a princely state before its merger with Orissa, and its early historical records remained enigmatic. Cobden-Ramsay delineated part of Upper Kendujhar and merged it with Mayurbhanj to establish the entity known as Hariharpur. This geographical entity was probably part of the ancient Khijjinga territory, which had its headquarters at Khijjinga Kota, now identified as modern Khiching. It became an independent state in the first half of the 12th century AD, under the rule of Jyoti Bhanja.
