Munger
Munger, formerly spelled Monghyr, is a twin city and municipal corporation located in the Indian state of Bihar. It is the administrative headquarters of Munger District and Munger Division. Munger was one of the most important cities in eastern India and entire Bengal during the Mughal period and the British Raj. It is one of the most important political, cultural, educational and commercial centers of Bihar and eastern India. Munger is located about 180 km east of the capital, Patna, about 480 km west of eastern India's largest city, Kolkata, and 1,200 km from the country's capital, New Delhi.
Historically, Munger is known as a former seat of government. The twin city consists of Munger and Jamalpur, located on the southern bank of the Ganges River. It is located 8 km from Jamalpur Junction, 180 km east of the capital Patna and 430 km from Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal.
