Perambalur
Perambalur is one of the 38 districts (an administrative district) of the state of Tamil Nadu, India. The district headquarters is located in Perambalur. The district covers an area of 1,752 km2 and had a population of 565,223 in 2011, with a sex ratio of 1,003 females for every 1,000 males.
Perambalur district is a central district in interior Tamil Nadu. It was bifurcated from the erstwhile composite district of Tiruchirappalli and formed on 1 January 1995. The district is bounded by the following districts of Kallakurichi in the north, Cuddalore in the northeast, Ariyalur in the east, Tiruchirappalli in the west and south and Salem in northwest.
The district is located in the southern plateau and mountainous area of the agro-climatic regional planning, with characteristics of semi-arid climate and world-class black granite in the Pachai Malai Hills. The soil is mainly composed of red loam soil and black soil. The normal rainfall in the district is 908 mm, less than 946.9 mm, the normal rainfall in the state. Precipitation during the northeast monsoon, southwest monsoon, and the remaining winter and warm weather periods accounts for 52%, 34%, and 14% of the annual rainfall, respectively.
