Sivaganga
Sivaganga district is one of the 38 districts (an administrative district) of the state of Tamil Nadu, India. This district was formed on March 15, 1985 by bifurcating Ramanathapuram district into Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar and Sivagangai districts. Sivaganga is the district headquarters. Karaikudi and Sivaganga are the most populated towns in the district. It is bordered by Pudukkottai district to the northeast, Tiruchirapalli district to the north, Ramanathapuram district to the southeast, Virudhunagar district to the southwest and Madurai district to the west. Other larger cities in the area are Sivagangai, Kalayar Kovil, Devakottai, Manamadurai, Ilayangudi, Thiruppuvanam, Singampunari and Tiruppattur. In 2011, the district had a population of 1,339,101 with a sex ratio of 1,003 females per 1,000 males.
Sivaganga District was created from Ramnad Composite District (GO MS. No. 1122 Rev. Dept. dated 6 July 1984) and the district was functional from 15 March 1985 (GO MS. No. 346 Rev. Dept. dated March 8, 1985 1985). ). Since Sivaganga has been the headquarters of Sivaganga Lok Shaba constituency since 1967, the plan was to create a new district with existing constituencies since 1984, the present Sivaganga district, and Sivaganga became the headquarters of the newly formed district.
