Supaul
Supaul is a city and municipality which is the headquarters of Supaul district in the Indian state of Bihar. Supaul is the administrative headquarters of this district. There are 11 blocks in Supaul district Supaul, Kishanpur, Saraigarh-Bhaptiyahi, Pipra, Triveniganj, Raghopur, chhatapur, Nirmali, Marauna, Basantpur and pratapganj.
Supaul, which was earlier part of Saharsa district, is now part of Mithila region. Mithila first came to prominence after it was inhabited by Indo-Aryan peoples who founded the Kingdom of Mithila (also called the Kingdom of the Videhas).
During the late Vedic period (c. 1100-500 BC), Videha, along with Kuru and Pañcāla, became one of the most important political and cultural centers in South Asia. The kings of the kingdom of Videha were called Janakas. The kingdom of Videha was later incorporated into the Vajjika League, which had its capital in the city of Vaishali, also in Mithila.
